There are many fiestas in Denia, the most famous being the Valencia-wide Fallas celebrations, culminating in the “nit del foc” fireworks display and La “cremà” which sees the burning of the huge colourful statues (or ‘Fallas’) that have been lovingly built throughout the year. The main local Fiesta ‘Festa Major’ is in July. This incorporates everything from religious celebrations gala parades and, of course, fireworks.
There are many landmarks to visit, from the 16th-century castle, the once residence of the Marquis of Denia, with its incredible views across Denia, to the hermitages of Sant Joan, Santa Paula, and Santa Lucía, constructed in the 14th and 15th centuries as well as the 18th-century church of the Asunción; the 17th-century Atarazanas (dockyards) and the cloister and church of San Antonio.
Denia also has its 18-hole golf club, located very close to the town, at La Sella designed by José Maria Olazabal.
