    Guide to the Jalon Valley

    Only a few kilometers from the coast you will find the beautiful Jalon Valley, which has been attracting Northern European residents for more than thirty years. Jalon is one of the larger towns in the Jalon Valley of which Alcalali, Benigembla, Benissa, Castell de Castells, Lliber, Murla, Parcent, and Senija are also part of.

    Jalon or Xalo is known locally as the capital of the "Valle de Pop" (Jalon Valley) and is situated next to the River Gorgos, surrounded by the Sierra de Bernia and the Sierra del Forner mountains. Jalon itself is a thriving town with all the hustle and bustle you would expect from a traditional Spanish town, Jalon is located just minutes from the motorway and the N332 and has the two international airports of Valencia and Alicante an hour and twenty minutes away by car.

    The village of Jalon is at the heart of the Jalon Valley. At the Old Square, there is a fountain around which there is an open market held on Tuesday mornings. Seen from the square is the famous Jalon Church with its blue dome. In the many small streets, you will find an abundance of shops, bars, and restaurants. Jalon is famous for its local wines, there are many bodegas (wine cellars) where you can sample wine before buying.

    The Jalon Valley averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year and the average temperature easily exceeds 20 degrees. The World Health Organisation, in 1986, confirmed the climate of the Jalon Valley as one of the most equitable in the world, not too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average the Jalon Valley can boast 325 sunny days each year making it an ideal all-year-round destination. In late January and early February, the whole of the Jalon Valley is covered with pink and white almond blossoms, and this is the best time to see it.
