The Marina Alta

There are so many areas of Spain that have a reducing population, but the Marina Alta, on the Costa Blanca, has seen an increase of 6,532 in population in 2023, compared to 2022. This data is extracted from the registration of residents on the Padron, (Townhall registration)

The Marina Alta includes the towns of Denia, Javea, Calpe, Teualda-Moraira, and Benissa.

The funding that each townhall receives from the Government is based on the number of residents so this increase in registration is something that will lead to even higher levels of funding and thus an increase in the facilities available in each town.

A percentage of this increase is down to those who have made the decision to permanently live in their holiday homes and new residents who have purchased homes in the area.

The local townhalls have spent the past few years working on campaigns to get people who live here to register on the local Padron, together with the war in Ukraine, Brexit and a host of other reasons more and more people are taking the plunge to become full residents.

Denia 45,893 inhabitants (increase 1,680)

Javea 30,249 inhabitants (increase 752)

Calpe has 25,909 inhabitants (an increase of 1,589)

Tuelada Moraira has 12,619 inhabitants ( an increase of 508)

Benissa has 12,372 inhabitants (an increase of 319)

The Marina Alta has a unique microclimate, which has been reported on by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which means that the winters are warmer and hot summer days have a cooling wind from the sea, making it one of the worlds healthiest climates and place to live.
